Roberts Sweeps Sprints at Payton Jordan

Starr Roberts put quite a show on during the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on May 4th after winning both the 100m and 200m dash races.

Roberts took the 100m victory with a time of 10.57 followed by Kellan Patterson (10.62) and Dany Belch (10.63). Roberts had been working out with teammate Will Montgomery who helped tweak a few things during the week and according to Richardson it made a world of difference.

”We wanted him to get out here a week before the California Relays to get him acclimated and work out with his old teammates and coaches” said Club President Rik Richardson.

During the 200m dash, Roberts ran a 21.36 on his way to the winning the event and even beat out Stanford’s 100m dash record holder Wopamo Osaisai. Osaisai was supposed to be in the 100m dash but backed out in order to be fresh for the 200m.

“It was an amazing double today,” said Richardson. “We got his legs under him and he was relaxed. He made a last minute decision to run this meet and I came away quite impressed. It was great to see him beat Osaisai in his own backyard. That’s what track and field is all about.”

Roberts is currently living in North Dakota ran the event as a tune-up for next weeks California Relays in Modesto.
