Athenians Compete at Hershey’s Final

Athenian Athletics Club members participated in the 2008 Hershey’s North American Final meet last week under team San Jose in Hershey, PA. Club members did not disappoint as all of the athletes medaled at the meet.

In the 11-12 boys 4x100 meter relay, the team of Nicholas Hasjim, Eugene Chen, Sahit Menon and Michael White placed third with a time of 53.74. The winning team was from Dallas, TX and ran a 53.07 followed by Fulton County, GA who ran 53.74.

In the 13-14 boys 4x100 meter relay, the team of Adeola Olayomi, Rostislay Matus, Joshua Slaton and Jeffrey Chen took third with a time of 49.63. The team from Tyler TX won the event with a time of 45.81 followed by Toronto, ON with a time of 47.85.

Club member Olivia Cotton qualified in the 400m dash finals and ran a 1:06.96 on her way to a sixth place finish. Michaela Di Cianna of Richmond Hill, ON won the event with a time of 1:04.32 followed by Olivia Vincent of Seattle, WA. (1:05.59) and Shannon Martin of Louisville, KY (1:05.82).

The Hershey’s Track and Field Program was created over 30 years ago to promote youth physical fitness and provide a fun learning experience for children 9 to 14 years old. Preliminary meets take place in every state where hundreds of athletes make it to the North American Final in Hershey, PA.
