Lukas and Mann
Receive Golden Tickets to AAU National Meet in Michigan For Haley Lukas and Hailey Mann, the journey towards competitive running has just begun as both ladies qualified for the AAU National Meet in Ypsilanti, MI. Both girls participate in competitive soccer with the Pleasanton Rage as Lukas advanced in the 400-m while Mann advanced in the 800-m races at the meet held in Tulare, CA over the weekend. Day 5k Spirit Run For the third straight year, Athenian Athletics has had quite a day at the Pleasanton Rotary Spirit Run as Samuel Hyams continued the tradition and won the event with a first place finish time of 15:49 and became the first athlete to break 16 minutes in the event. ___________________________________________________ Roberts Sweeps
Sprints at Minn. Open Starr Roberts won both the 100-m dash and the 200-m dash at the Minnesota Open at Hamline University on Sunday. For Roberts, this was his first sweep in the sprints since the Payton Jordan Invitational. ___________________________________________________ Montgomery Improves
200-m Time at Jim Bush Club member, Will Montgomery, dropped his time during the Jim Bush Southern California and San Diego West Region USATF Championships at Occidental College on Saturday June 7, 2008. Montgomery ran in his first meet since winning the 200-m dash at Pacific Association Championships. He dropped his 200-m time to a 21.53 while in the 100-m dash he ran a 10.85. Kendall Stevens won the 100-m with a time of 10.09 while Jared Connaughton won the 200-m with a time of 20.35 which also set a meet record. ___________________________________________________ IOC: Chicago
a Finalist for 2016 Games Chicago was one of four cities selected as a bid finalist for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games according to the IOC. Chicago, which hopes to become the first Olympic site for the Summer Games since 1996, now has 16-months to get things in order for a final visit in October of 2009. ___________________________________________________ Hyams Qualifies
for State Meet—Signs Letter of Intent at UC Irvine Samuel Hyams has come a long way in a little over a year. Last year, qualifying for the state meet seemed like a pipe dream until he altered his workouts and dedicated himself to a year-round training schedule as well additional training outside of his high school team with Athenian Athletics. It all paid off in the end as he qualified for the state meet in the boys 1,600-m run on Saturday May 24. _______________________________________________________ Montgomery
Wins 200m at Pacific Association Championships In a strong wind of -3.7, Will Montgomery used his strength and pure guts to power his way to winning the 200m dash with a time of 22.46 during the Pacific Association Championships on Sunday. Montgomery beat out Chris Tucker (22.91) and David Carcamo (23.71) in the event. He also placed third in the 100-m dash while running a 10.54. _______________________________________________________ Lukas Sets
Multiple CYO Records Haley Lukas, sixth grade, had quite the weekend to remember as she accomplished her goal of setting a CYO record. However, she took it a step further when she set two records. Lukas, who is in middle school, won he 200m and the 400m races at the Oakland Diocese CYO Championships over the weekend. Lukas ran the 200m dash in a time of 27.13 which broke the previous record of 27.20 set in 1999. In the 400m dash, she won the event with a time of 60.73 which shattered the previous record of 63.50 set in 1989. _______________________________________________________ Hyams Breaks Foothill
1,600m Record During the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL) Finals Sam Hyams broke the Foothill High School 1,600m run record after running a time of 4:17.63. Hyams placed second in the League Championships in the finals behind California’s Dmitry Kislyuk who ran 4:15.81. _______________________________________________________ Modesto Relays Recap While the pole vault might have received the headlines in the newspapers, Athenian Athletics put on a good show in the assortment of events that we competed in during the 67th Annual California Invitational Relays—formally the Modesto Relays. _______________________________________________________ Roberts Sweeps Sprints at Payton Jordan Starr Roberts put quite a show on during the Peyton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on May 4th after winning both the 100m and 200m dash races. _______________________________________________________ Carlyle Returns
to Club at Brutus Hamilton Fletcher Carlyle was back with Athenian Athletics after a year and a half of competing for his Community College team and did not disappoint jumping 6-06.75 while placing 4th in the event. Mustapha Raifak and California’s Ed Wright co-won the event with a jump of 7-02.50 followed by Josh Cosio (6-08.75). _______________________________________________________ Athenians to Compete at AAU Qualifying

Shine at Los Gatos Say what you will about needing a huge track and field team to be successful as Athenian Athletics proved that theory to be false with just five athletes competing, they came away the talk of the meet. Arthi Benjaram, Hailey Lukas, Hailey Mann, Nick Mann and Richard Yang all came away with first place finishes in every event they competed in during the fully automatic timed meet on February 23, 2008 at Los Gatos High School. _______________________________________________________ Chahal
