Athenian Athletics was first formed in January of 2000 by Head Coach Rik Richardson as an extension of the Ann Arbor Track Club in Michigan . The club was intended originally to be a support system for high performance post collegiate athletes to help them fulfill their Olympic and professional goals.

The Club had the honor of being represented in the 2000 Summer Olympics by Clement Chukwu and Fabian Rollins. Chukwu, who represented Nigeria , won the silver medal in the 4x400 meter relay.

Other Athletes that have worn the shield includes: Carl Brown (Discus), Jamie Nieto (high jump), Trinity Townsend as well as many other high performance athletes.

The Youth Program in Michigan produced All-American Athletes who have set National Records in their age groups. Some of those athletes went on to run track in college with scholarships.

The club was moved to Livermore , CA in 2003 because of the near perfect training weather the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer. Even in the cold weather months, athletes can still train outside compared to other parts of the country.

Richardson (originally from Livermore ) wanted to bring this type of club to his hometown to help promote track and field in the community and bring world class athletes to the Bay Area to train.

Richardson brings over 30 years of experience in track and field and now wants to use that experience to help out the community and help others live a healthier life style and be a part of the club.

We have some of the top track minds in the country serving as our club advisors to help monitor the direction of the club as well as help develop some of the best training routines in the country so that we may be successful at a world class level.
